Former Michigan standout joins Timberwolves

"The kid's got the best attitude of any kid I've met recently," said T-Wolves head coach Dick Clark. "He plays hard. He's just a pleasure to have around."

The 6-0, 200-pound defensive back graduated from Michigan in December, 2006, with a degree in English. He participated in the Detroit Lions Rookie Camp and was an assistant high school coach last year until hearing about the Timberwolves from quarterback Kent Smith, who also joined Monroe County's semipro team this season.

"We've known each other since we played little league football together with the Robinson Wildcats in the (Toledo) Mid-City League," Barringer said. "We were about 12 then."

Smith went on to set passing records at Central Michigan, spent a year on the Oakland Raiders practice squad and was in camp with the Tennessee Titans. Barringer also has NFL plans.

"I wanted to play football and Kent said the Timberwolves were a good team," he said. "This is an opportunity for me to achieve my dream of playing in the NFL. I don't care where I play as long as I'm on the field. We've got a great team here. I think we're going to win every game, but that's just me."

Barringer has other options. Another dream is to serve as a graduate assistant coach. But that's not all.

"I want to be a writer of some kind," he said. "I write poems, stories and opinion articles to myself."
